Prayer of Salvation and Its Meaning

Prayer of SalvationThe Salvation prayer (a.k.a. Sinners prayer) isn’t a special formula that is required to be forgiven by God and go to heaven. Any prayer said out of your heart asking God forgiveness for our sins is all that’s required. Sin means “miss the mark” as an archer misses the target. To not obey all the 10 commandments, means to miss the mark. God requires us to be holy as He is holy. I know this sounds tough, but thankfully God has made a way!

Jesus died on the cross to connect us back to God. Jesus is Emmanuel God with us! Salvation means to be saved from the wrath of God and spend eternity with Him, now and forever! God loves us so much that He gave us the “easiest method” to find Him. What’s the method? Just believe and have faith!

The verses below will help you understand why we “confess with our mouth” and “believe in our hearts” to be “saved”.

Salvation Prayer Verses Explained

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

We CAN NOT be saved through works! I don’t care how “good” of a person you think you are, it’s impossible! As sin separates us from God.

Not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us. – Titus 3:5

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23

For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10

10 Commandments = The Whole Law

The Ten Commandments

1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet.

Once we see the need for forgiveness of our sin, we repent. The word “repent” means, to change our way of thinking. Many believes, it means to make a 180° or to turn around, but the Greek (metanoia) is “after/behind one’s mind”. If you now know something is sinful, then you need to change your way of thinking to adjust to your newfound knowledge.

Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. Ezekiel 18:30

The reason Jesus shed His blood for us was to be the perfect lamb sacrificed for our sins. To be a Christian means “Christ-like”, though many profess being a Christian, but don’t act like one. I’m not here to teach religion by any means, because you can be sealed with the Holy Spirit while remaining a Catholic or Jew AND STILL go to heaven!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. – John 3:16

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. – John 14:6″

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. John 3:5

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14

Prayer of Salvation From The Heart

Just say a prayer out of your heart. This is what touches God, not a repetitive prayer. Also, please don’t assume a one time act of faith that gives you permission to behave however you wish. We must be willing to repent for the mistakes we’ve done.

Example of Salvation Prayer:

Dear God, I come to You as a sinner, and I’m sorry for the wrong that I’ve done. I need Your forgiveness Lord.

I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son that came to die for me on the cross. You’ve made it so simple for me to know You. I just have to believe. I want to know You in a personal way.

You said in your Word, “That if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.”

I confess Lord Jesus over my life and believe with all of my heart that Jesus was raised from the dead. I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and according to Your Word, I’m saved from my sin.

Thank you Jesus for washing my sins away, and accepting me just as I am. I repent and put You as King over my life. Your will be done and not my own.

In your Name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2nd Corinthians 5:17

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. John 14:15-18
